Homemade Veggie SpraysWednesday, October 29. 2008
Just as many others, we're trying to save money where we can and eat at home more often. So in an effort to save money and be healthy, I started looking into veggie washes so I can make sure I'm not putting our health in danger while trying to save.
Whether I'm buying veggies at the local grocer or premium organic vegetables, I still need to wash them. Especially with E coli outbreaks that occur due to farms using contaminated water. =>a gross side note and yet another reason to go veg is the article from London-basd journal Nature states that a steady diet of red meat makes the body more susceptible to a virulent form of intestinal bug that can cause bloody diarrhea and even death. I have found 2 recipes: Homemade Veggie Spray#1 2 tbsp lemon 2 tbsp baking soda 1 cup water Homemade Veggie Spray #2 (this one is said to draw out critters, especially in organic fruits and veggies. I hate it when I bite into worms!) 1/2 cup vinegar 4 tbsp salt 2 cups water Pick version 1 or 2, mix and pour into spray bottle. To clean veggies, spray and let sit for a few minutes then rinse. NOTE: Don't spray mushroom...they'll just suck up the water. For these little suckers, scrub them lightly with a brush or wet rag...using minimal water. That's it! It's green, environmentally friendly, free of animal testing and CHEAP! Happy Eating. Love Bacon, Ham, Hot Dogs, and Sausages?Wednesday, October 15. 2008

I was watching Oprah today. It was a show on "How we treat animals we eat." I don't eat animals, and I know Oprah tried to go vegan for a short period of time, and I reacted negatively when she failed...but this show has redeemed her somewhat in that area because she showed everyone how animals are treated. It exposed the audience to how horrible the conditions are, how the animals live their lives and how it gets to dinner plates everywhere.
She is not advocating people to become Vegans or Vegetarians, but thats OK with me, because this show brought awareness to people to the torture and abuse innocent animals face so that people can eat. I accept that not everyone will become vegetarian or vegan, but at least make an effort to let the innocent animals lead a better existence. Saving a few bucks here and there is important to all of us especially with the economy today, but the few dollars we save make the shortened lives of these poor animals more cruel and unbearable than any torture we can imagine. An example being how hens that bear eggs for human consumption are only allotted a space that is comparable to a sheet of 8x11 paper to spend their entire time. No room to expand their wings, no room to turn around, no room to relax since they're sitting on wire crates. What makes it worse, the hens are in cages with 5-6 other hens, and they are stacked 5 crates high, so the hens under these crates get covered with feces from the hens above them. Here is a video from mercyforanimals.org that will help us remind us what your scrambled eggs, eggs in your cake or cookies and any other egg containing product is doing to innocent hens. What do you do when you hear a silent animal scream?Friday, October 10. 2008
What do you do when you hear a silent animal scream?
No, this isn't a joke...this is tragic and real. Stop supporting companies that kill innocent animals, stop wearing death on your body and stop the unnecessary abuse of animals for fashion. Find out more about Armani on peta.org.
